Free Cooking Demos

Eating healthy is easier than you think.

Come learn new recipes and techniques for preparing delicious meals taught by a registered dietitian. We are pleased to offer these free cooking demostrations to the community at 6:00 p.m. at our North Regional Health and Wellness Center, 56th & MLK Jr. Blvd, location that features a full demonstration kitchen. Each attendee will enjoy free samples of the dishes prepared, and will take home recipe cards and educational handouts. Registration is not required to attend. **All Demos will be shared via Facebook Live.**

*CANCELED* March 26: Utilizing Frozen Veggies | Fruits and vegetables taste best when they are consumed in season. But frozen vegetable are a great way to keep your plate filled with a variety of veggies all year round! This class will show you different ways to incorporate frozen veggies in recipes that you can enjoy any time of the year.

*CANCELED* April 9: Diabetes | Think diabetic recipes are bland? Think again! This class will provide recipes that meet dietary guidelines for people with diabetes that the whole family will enjoy.

*CANCELED* April 23: Quick Breads with Whole Grains | Learn how to step up some of your favorite pastries by baking with whole grains. This simple switch can be a great way to include more whole grains into your family’s diet. 

May 14: Spring Vegetables | Eating your vegetables is more than just having a salad with dinner. This class will show you ways to incorporate some of our spring favorites into satisfying meals.

May 28: Grilling | With summer right around the corner, it is time to dust off your grill (or grill pan). Learn how grilling your favorites meats and veggies can bring out delicious flavor without adding a lot of sodium and saturated fat. 

June 11: Hearty Salads | Salads can be the perfect refreshing meal during the heat of the summer. Learn some new recipes for flavorful and filling salads.

July 9: Picnic Favorites | Plan the perfect picnic with these light and refreshing recipes. These dishes are best enjoyed outdoors with friends and family!

August 13: Back to School Lunch Ideas | Rethink your kids’ lunch box ideas for the upcoming school year. This class will focus on quick and healthy out of the box ideas to keep lunch fun without slowing down your morning routine. 

September 10: Cooking Dairy Free | When we think about food allergies, nuts and shellfish come to mind. But many people cannot have dairy in their diet. This class will explore how to produce rich and creamy results without using any dairy.

September 24: Pumpkin | What better way to celebrate the beginning of fall than with pumpkin?! This demo will focus on including the beloved pumpkin flavor in new creative ways. 

October 8: Diabetic Cooking | Think diabetic recipes are bland? Think again! This class will provide recipes that meet dietary guidelines for people with diabetes that the whole family will enjoy.

October 22: Feeding Infants and Toddlers | Are you a parent or caregiver of a toddler? Help your growing little one try new and nutritious foods that are the perfect size and texture. Your tot will love the new flavors, and you will love how easy they are to prepare!

November 12: Thanksgiving | Give thanks to your family and friends by making these Thanksgiving meals with a twist.

December 10: Holiday Favorites | The holiday season brings many gatherings with family, friends – and lots of food. Come learn how you can prepare traditional holiday favorites that are as healthy as they are festive.

Soups | As the cold days of winter endure, there is nothing more comforting than a hearty bowl of soup. In this class, we will learn two different soups that work well for a hearty dinner and taste even better for lunch the next day! Watch the demo.

Using Quinoa and Chia | Quinoa and Chia seem to be everywhere, magazines, TV and social media, but what are they? We know they are good for us, but they may be a little intimidating if you don’t know how to use them. In this class, we will learn more about how to fit these two ingredients into our everyday meal planning.

Heart Health | Learn how to make delicious meals that are good for your taste buds and your heart. This class is for anyone interested in creating healthy meals that the entire family will enjoy. Watch the demo.

Breakfast for Dinner | Rethink your dinner plan by including some breakfast favorites! This is a great option for quick and healthy meals when you need a change up from your normal dinner rotation. Watch the demo.

Instant Pot: Dried Beans | Beans are excellent source of protein and fiber. Dried beans are not only a great source of protein and fiber, but they are also the most economical form of protein available. In this class we will learn how to prepare dried beans in a fraction of the time using an instant pot. Watch the demo.
