There’s A Course To Fit Your Schedule

All area food service employees must have an original, valid Foodhandler Permit from THD in their possession while at work. To receive a permit, you must successfully complete a THD Food Safety Class. Foodhandler Permits are non transferable. The fee for the permit is $15, and may be paid with cash or credit card.

Please note that THD does not accept food safety employee training provided by private organizations (online training or any other training). You would still need to pay the $15 and pass the THD Waiver Test or attend a THD class. Please see the THD schedule for class times or Waiver Test information.

House Bill 1804 Verification Requirements

House Bill 1804 went into effect on November 1, 2007. As a result, anyone attending a food handler class or applying for a manager's certificate from the Tulsa Health Department must sign a statement that they are either (1) a United States citizen, or (2) a qualified alien under the federal Immigration & Nationality Act and are lawfully present in the United States.

Duplicates of your Foodhandler Permit or manager certification can be provided for a $5 fee only at Eastgate Metroplex location at 14002 E. 21st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, if it is still valid and un-expired.

Obtaining a Temporary Food Permit

You may obtain a Temporary Foodhandler Permit allowing you to work in a food service establishment as you await your food handler class date. Temporary permits expire in one week or on the date of the next available food handler class.

Temporary Food Permit Information

Purchase your temporary permit at the location where you plan to attend your food safety class except for Broken Arrow, Bixby, and Owasso classes. Temporary permits for Broken Arrow classes may be purchased at the THD James Goodwin Health Center, 5051 S. 129th E. Ave. Temporary permits for the South Tulsa classes may be purchased at Bixby WIC Center, 8120 E. 126th St., Bixby. Temporary permits for the Owasso Class may be purchased at the Collinsville Health Center, 12th & Center St., Collinsville.

Nonrefundable fee is $15 and may be paid with cash or credit card (no checks accepted). Correct change is always appreciated.

Only one Temporary Foodhandler Permit will be issued per applicant.

Failure to attend a food safety training class on or before the temporary permit expires requires you to pay another $15 before you attend class.
