Tuberculosis
TB Skin Tests and Chest X-Rays
The THD’s community-wide Tuberculosis Control Program utilizes education, primary prevention, testing and TB treatment to help stop the spread of Tuberculosis, or TB. TB is caused by bacteria that usually attack the lungs. It is spread through the air from person to person. TB used to be the leading cause of death in the United States. In the 1940s, drugs emerged to treat TB and it slowly began to disappear in the U.S. However, the disease began to make a come-back in the mid-eighties.
You may fall into a high- or moderate-risk group for TB if you have an HIV infection, have had recent contact with a person with TB, or if you have recently been in a country with a high incidence of TB.
TB testing for all age groups is conducted at Expo Square Health Center (Map) at 4616 E. 15th St., Tulsa, OK, Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00-11:00 a.m. A Spanish-speaking interpreter is available.
There is no charge for TB testing if you have been exposed to an active case or have symptoms. If the testing is done for employment or school purposes, the cost is $20.00 for TB testing and a chest x-ray is $35.00.
