HIV / AIDS Testing

Human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, progressively destroys the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers. HIV causes AIDS - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. People with AIDS are susceptible to life-threatening diseases called opportunistic infections. HIV is spread by sexual contact with an HIV-infected partner or through contact with infected blood, which can occur when injection drug users share needles.  For more information "click here".

The THD's Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic provides HIV testing for anyone over the age of 12 who is sexually active. Disease intervention specialists and a Spanish-speaking interpreter are available.

The cost for HIV testing is $20.  If you are a Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic client, HIV testing is included in the $20 STD testing fee; if you are a Maternal Health or Family Planning client, the fee is based on a sliding scale according to your gross income and number of people in your household.

Testing is available at Expo Square Health Center (Map) at 4616 E. 15th St., Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m; and Friday, 8:00-11:00 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome.
