Prenatal Care
Starting Care Early In Your Pregnancy Is Best
Doing everything you can to optimize your health and nutrition during your pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for your baby. This includes receiving prenatal care as soon as you think you are pregnant. Inadequate prenatal care has been linked to premature births, low infant birth weight and other risks.
THD provides prenatal care for low- to moderate-risk pregnant women of all ages. Services include medical check-ups, laboratory services and ultrasounds. We can also make referrals to other THD programs or community resources or services.
Our staff and health care providers speak English and Spanish. We can also contract with other community resources for interpreters in other languages.
Please remember that receiving prenatal care early in your pregnancy is vital. In fact, it should ideally begin before your pregnancy with healthy choices you make to prepare for your baby. Here are some simple steps you can take leading up to your pregnancy.
- Take a daily multivitamin with 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid.
- Maintain a healthy weight by eating healthy food and staying fit.
- Do not smoke or be around secondhand smoke.
- Do not drink alcohol or use illegal drugs.
- Avoid infections, stress and hazardous substances or chemicals.
