Volunteer Food Safety Classes

Volunteers need food safety training too, if they are serving food or beverages. We now offer free on-site training for members of non-profit organizations. The class lasts approximately one hour and covers basic food safety activities. Cards are presented at the end of the class for attendees and are valid for one calendar year. Cards are non-renewable and the class must be retaken upon expiration. There is no exam required with this class. This is for volunteers only and this card is not valid for employment for pay positions.

You must have at least 50 members available to attend. We request you schedule at least two weeks in advance.

Inset - Food >Classes >Volunteer-manVolunteers can also come to a regular food handler class if they are unable to attend a class scheduled by the organization, or if you do not have enough members available to schedule a class. When coming to a regular class, please inform the clerk upon check-in that you are a volunteer with what organization and the normal $10 fee will be waived. There is an exam associated with this class. Upon passing the exam, you will receive a card valid for three years, and it can be exchanged for a photo identification card during that time if you wish to pursue employment in the food service industry. You must pay the $10 fee to upgrade the permit.

For more information or to schedule a class, call the Food Handler Program Coordinator at 595-4300.
