2002 - Sooner Spring

In 2002, THDARC teamed up with the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club (TARC) to operate a special event station during a mock disaster drill which simulated a smallpox outbreak in Tulsa.  During the course of the drill, over 300 contacts were made using one station in the EOC and six portable stations set up on the grounds of the Health Department by TARC.  Contacts were made in 43 states, 29 different Oklahoma communities in 21 different counties, and ten different foreign countries.  Eight other EOCs in Oklahoma and Arkansas were contacted.  Other notable contacts included the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) in Atlanta, the Oklahoma State Department of Health (via relay), two Boy Scout troops, and the Salvation Army.  The 2002 certificate was designed to honor emergency response personnel, particularly those who lost their lives in New York City, Washington DC, or Pennsylvania on 9/11/2001.
